The son of the local carpenter, Luciano Sandrone always dreamed of owning his own vineyard and making his own wine. He achieved his lifelong ambition in 1978, buying a small plot in Cannubi Boschis. They like to call themselves "Le Garagiste" as their story started in the 70s in their family garage. This now-legendary vineyard proved pivotal in securing his family’s fortunes; Luciano’s wines were among the first in the region to garner worldwide acclaim. Driven by Luciano’s clarity of vision, the estate expanded to over 20 hectares. His original vineyard, now in front of the family’s home and winery, produces the fruit that goes into their Aleste Barolo. Since the early ’90s, Luciano worked alongside his children Luca and Barbara, and increasingly his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano, before passing in 2023. The estate’s philosophy revolves around respecting the unique terroirs of Barolo, with a focus on sustainable practices and minimal intervention. The result is a portfolio of wines that are not only expressions of their land but also of Sandrone’s unwavering commitment to quality. Gallioni (the voice on Italian wine) said “of the Piedmont wineries that are still in their first generation, those that started in the 1980s, Luciano Sandrone is arguably the only estate whos wines are widely recognised as an icon”.We’re incredibly honored to have Barbara Sandrone join us, who will present 8 of their wines, including:Barbera d’Alba 2023Aleste Barolo 2019 vs 2022 (new vintage)Le Vigne Barolo 2020Dolchetto d’Alba 2024Valmaggiore 2023Aleste Sibi et Paucis 2015Vite Talin 2020These are seriously prestigious wines, Sandrone is one of the most iconic producers in Piedmonte and so it really will be special to try them with a member of the Sandrone family. Fin & Grape will serve a few nibbles for us to enjoy alongside the wines during the tasting.For those who want to make a proper night of it, we have tables reserved in the main restaurant afterwards. Dinner is £75pp including service.
